Short answer:<\/strong> Production approval samples for stamped parts should include more than a few physical pieces. Buyers should define sample quantity, drawing revision, material lot, finish batch, dimensional report, critical feature evidence, burr and cosmetic review, packaging trial, photo record, deviation status, and written signoff before the supplier treats production release as approved.<\/p>\n

A first sample can look acceptable on a desk and still fail production release because the evidence package is incomplete. The buyer needs to know whether the sample represents the final tool, final material, final finish, final packaging, and final inspection method.<\/p>\n

Define what approval means<\/h2>\n

Production approval should not mean the buyer merely received samples. It should mean the buyer reviewed the agreed evidence and released the supplier to make production parts under the same controlled condition. If some items are conditionally approved, record the conditions and due dates.<\/p>\n

For example, dimensional approval may be complete while packaging approval is still open. Plating may be approved visually but still waiting for thickness data. A deviation may be accepted for prototype samples but not for production. The approval record should separate these cases.<\/p>\n

The approval owner should be named before samples ship. If engineering, quality, and purchasing all wait for another team to sign off, the supplier may hold production or start with unclear risk.<\/p>\n

Tie samples to final process conditions<\/h2>\n

Ask whether the samples were made from the final die, final strip layout, final press, final material thickness, and final finish. If the supplier used temporary tooling, soft tooling, or manual deburring, the evidence should say so. This prevents the team from approving a process that will not be used in production.<\/p>\n
